WHAT IS FIREHOUSETRADE?
Firehousetrade is a site specific to firefighters only. When planning your vacation, forget sleeping in the same sheets that thousands of other people have slept in. You stay in my house and I stay in yours.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
It's simple, even for firefighters.
1. Click on a country or state/province where you want to go.
2. Click on an interesting Listing
3. Communicate via private email to that Listing directly from the site
Don't forget to post your Listing so others throughout the world can find you.
HOW SAFE IS IT?
The reason for catering to firefighters is the "Brotherhood" we all share. The respect we hold for each other, no matter status, rank, otherwise, is unmatched and cannot be found in any other profession.
Still ask for referrals about prior exchanges. Agree on the ground rules for your exchange.
WHAT IF THE SWAP DATES DON'T MATCH?
Not to worry. Some people have second homes in their Listings.
You could set up a swap as a guest. You come stay as a guest in my house with me during your time and I go stay as a guest in your house with you during my time.
Set up a place to stay for a night while traveling to your final destination.
WHAT DO I DO WITH MY VALUABLES?
It is plain and simple. If you value it, take care of it so it cannot be stolen or broken.
WHAT ABOUT INSURANCE AND LIABILITY?
Check with your insurance company. Most insurance companies cover exchange partners as invited guests in your home or “permitted” drivers and offers coverage as such.
CAN I INCLUDE MY CAR IN A SWAP?
Swapping cars is a possability. Check with your insurance company for coverage.
CAN I BRING MY PETS?
The option to allow pets is noted in the Listings.
WHAT IF I DON'T LIVE IN A MAJOR CITY?
Even if you are a little off the beaten path, seasoned vacationers look for solitude.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
FREE! Whether you make one swap or ten, there is no cost to you. Donations are appreciated to keep the site free and to help fellow firefighters achieve their dream vacation.
WILL MY MEMBERSHIP BE IN A POOL?
No pools or time shares here. These swaps are one-on-one between firefighters.
WHO CLEANS THE HOUSE?
Each party is responsible for leaving the respected house in the same, if not better, manner as they found it. This includes everything used during a swap (laundry, car, etc).
A professional service can be called in for cleaning or you can do it yourself. Either way, it's all about respect towards the other firefighter and their belongings.
DO I ONLY HAVE TO SWAP IN MY COUNTRY?
No, as the old saying goes, "The world is your oyster."
HOW LONG IS A TYPICAL EXCHANGE?
The answere to this is entirely up to each party involved in a swap. The typical vacation is from 1-3 weeks. There is no limit to how long, or how short, your dream vacation can last.
WHAT IS YOUR PRIVACY POLICY?
We will not post your name, street address, email address, or any other personal information in your listing. We will not share or sell your information on the internet, third party companies or any such parties.
WHAT ARE SOME OTHER BENEFITS OF SWAPPING HOUSES?
Besides the obvious of saving hundreds or thousands of dollars, you can blend in like a local. Staying in a house instead of a hotel with tons of other travelers adds a sence of comfort. Use the money you would normally spend on hotels to enhance your memories.
WHAT IF I LIVE IN AN APARTMENT?
You can still set up a swap but we suggest you contact the owner of your apartment and get permission.
